Brisbane’s Family Nightclub to close and reopen as a new venue

Since 2001, Brisbane’s Family Nightclub has been one of Australia’s favourite places to party. But from June 17, Family will be no more — the long-serving nightspot is closing its doors and reopening as a new club called EI8HT.

EI8HT will be built upon the values of Family’s all-inclusive gay bash Fluffy, with owners announcing their vision is to create a space that promotes “acceptance, open-mindedness and diversity”. Fluffy will live on each Sunday night at EI8HT, while a new club night called ONE will launch on Saturdays.

Harry Katsenavas, the promoter behind Fluffy, will continue on at EI8HT for the new era. “I’ve had the privilege of being a part of The Family since the beginning,” Katsenavas told scenestr. “It revolutionised the clubbing landscape in Brisbane and paved the way for a nightlife revolution in this city.”

Across the last 16 years, Family has played host to acts like Above & Beyond, Tiesto, Carl Cox and Ferry Corsten, and was regularly voted one of Queensland’s best clubs in the annual inthemix awards.

EI8HT officially launches on Saturday June 17; the opening party line-up is still TBA.
