Break out the shutter shades, some 2006-themed parties are coming to Australia

Back in April a savvy group of promoters launched ‘2007: A Year in Dance’, a party paying tribute to one of the best ever eras in dance music.

By all accounts, the noughties-themed parties were a raging success – so now A Year in Dance is coming back, but this time they’re winding the clock back even further. This November they’ll be celebrating the year that was 2006 at events in Sydney and Brisbane, spreading the music across two stages at each venue – one playing ’06 party tunes like Riot in Belgium’s La Musique and the other playing indie dance bangers.

2006, if you need a refresher, was a time of peak Modular and Bang Gang, when indie-dance bands and French electro ruled all dancefloors. Fedde Le Grand had the hit of the year with Put Your Hands Up For Detroit, Soulwax, 2manydjs, The Presets and James Murphy played Big Day Out, Uffie burst into the scene with Pop the Glock and Ajax was the inthemix-official #1 DJ in Australia.

So you can expect to hear throwback hits from heroes like Boys Noize, Surkin, Justice, Klaxons, Daft Punk and Erol Alkan, Busy P, Simian Mobile Disco and The Gossip when A Year in Dance comes to town. The party hits hits Woolly Mammoth in Brisbane on November 4 and Sydney’s Hudson Ballroom (formerly Goodgod Small Club) on November 12; find out more on the Facebook events here for Brissy and here for Sydney.
