Blur set to be replaced on the BDO lineup by three new acts
One English act and two American bands are set to be added to the Big Day Out lineup replacing Blur, festival promoter AJ Maddah has revealed in an interview with triple j.
Maddah had hoped to announce all three acts today but has decided to wait until he has all the contracts in hand before making any official announcement. “The UK band dutifully came through with their paperwork and contract. And one of the US bands [did the same] but the second one basically pissed off for Thanksgiving weekend without sending us their contracts,” Maddah explained. “So we’ll have to hold to Monday night our time to get it up. We don’t want to leave anything to chance at this point.”
While he didn’t offer many clues about who the replacements are, Maddah noted that one of the American bands features a guitarist who has had to reschedule TV commitments. When asked is this mystery guitarist was known for not wearing a shirt very often Maddah quickly moved to change the subject. That suggestion appears to suggest that Dave Navarro who is currently tattoo reality show Ink Master is likely to join the Big Day Out with his band Janes Addiction. Maddah also suggested that the English act set to join the lineup is of a similarly nostalgic hue as Blur. “Hopefully overall we’re improved the show and the value of people’s tickets,” Maddah boasted.
Maddah had said that, given the time frame, the BDO team “cast a fairly wide net” in their search for a suitable replacements although he cautioned fans not to expect a massive act to be announced. “Do keep in mind that we are replacing the third band on the bill and not a stadium act,” he tweeted earlier this week.
