Big Day Out 2013 set times announced
Big Day Out is in a habit of getting things done early this year. With the 2013 line-up dropping months ago, now it’s time to get acquainted with the set times for the national juggernaut. Along with the timetables, BDO has announced a host of local additions for each city.
The mainstage drawcards are Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Killers, but as ever there’s a strong dance contingent. As predicted following the teaser by Bob Cornelius Rifo, the Bloody Beetroots will be leading the Boiler Room with an all-new show. After bringing the Death Crew 77 live band to BDO and DJing on the mainstage at Stereosonic 2011, Rifo has something previously unseen planned for 2013.
Along with the Beetroots, the line-up also U.S. house stadium-filler Kaskade on the first weekend and BT on the second weekend. Australia is one of the prime destinations for both these guys, so expect something special. Also locked in is Dutch big-room player Nicky Romero, whose 2012 has been stellar so far. Romero has proven to be dance music’s go-to-guy in recent years, hooking up in the studio with names like Avicii, David Guetta, Zedd, Fedde Le Grand and Hardwell. Then there’s the Boiler Room bookings of electronic tearaways Crystal Castles, who’ve wowed the tour before, U.S. superstar Pretty Lights, festival-stage specialist Morgan Page and more, so get planning below.
Take a look, too, at The Lilypad, which is always its own mini-festival of weirdness. This year you’ll see a slot for a mystery ‘Superstar DJ’ alongside the star attractions like Xtreme Food Olympics and Bogan Karaoke. Who’s it going to be? Then there’s Chow Town, Big Day Out’s mission to raise the bar on festival food. We will see some of Australia’s finest restaurants re-imagined as pop-up style eateries at events in Melbourne, Sydney, Gold Coast, Adelaide and Perth.
