Behold, BBC Radio 1’s all-star resident DJs for 2015

While he may get much of the credit (and even an MBE), Pete Tong is just one of the BBC’s many dance music tastemakers. Aside from names like Annie Nightingale and Annie Mac, the public broadcaster keeps a well-stocked roster of DJs and producers to keep listeners ahead of the curve. Radio 1’s Residency program, for instance, has given listeners plenty of reasons to tune in this year, with acts like Steve Angello, James Blake, Skream, Martin Garrix, Heidi and George FitzGerald taking on coveted slots.

With a slight shake-up in the current roster, the BBC has announced its new Radio 1 residents for 2015: Heidi, Skream and FitzGerald will return to the program next month along with a handful of first-time residents in Hannah Wants, Flying Lotus, Kaytranada, Solomun and ‘Essential Mix of the Year’ contender Jon Hopkins.

Kaytranada’s people let slip earlier this month on Twitter that he’d be doing a monthly mix for Radio 1, but he gave an official statement to the BBC once the news was properly released. “During my high school days, I used to listen to my favourite DJs’ mixes on BBC and now, here I am,” he said. “Damn. I’m going to play the best music for y’all.” Check the full residency line-up and broadcast schedule for January 2015 below.
