Tributes pour in for Avicii following his death, aged 28

Dance artists from around the world are paying tribute to Avicii, real name Tim Bergling, who was found dead on Friday aged 28.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii,” his longtime publicist Diana Baron said in a statement on Friday night. “He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th.

“The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given.”

Avicii began releasing music in 2008, and his career soared to headliner level in 2011 with the success of ubiquitous hit ‘Levels’. He hit superstardom following the release of single ‘Wake Me Up’ and album True in 2013.

Over the years he spoke at length about his struggles with the mental and physical pressure of DJing, telling inthemix in 2013 that his constant drinking and partying had landed him in hospital back in 2012.

He officially retired from touring in March 2016, after cancelling a string of shows in 2013 and 2014 due health issues surrounding acute pancreatitis — in part brought on by excessive drinking.

He made a comeback to music just last year, releasing the EP Avīci (01) in September which spawned the hits ‘Lonely Together’ and ‘Without You’.

Dance artists are now paying tribute to Bergling on social media.

Tim, since day one you’ve been one of my biggest inspirations to make dance music. You put Sweden on the map with the most memorable melodies in the world. I wish I could have said a few last words to you before you left this place. Millions of people will remember you forever.
