The artist formerly known as Chet Faker just dropped a new song

Back in September Chet Faker announced that he no longer wishes to be known as Chet Faker, declaring henceforth that he’ll be performing and recording under his birth name Nick Murphy.

Now, the Sydney superstar has dropped the first single from his forthcoming album. Stop Me (Stop You) is co-produced by Darkside’s Dave Harrington and is Nick Murphy’s second song under his own name, following September’s Fear Less. Explaining the decision to change his name, Murphy said the move was about “evolution”.

“It’s been half a decade since I started releasing music as Chet Faker and all of you have been the driving force behind the music since,” he told fans on Facebook. “There’s an evolution happening and I wanted to let you know where it’s going. The next record will be under my own name, Nick Murphy. Chet Faker will always be a part of the music. This is next.”

Murphy will headline the 2017 edition of St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival, sharing the bill with the likes of Floating Points, Tame Impala and Tycho. Listen to Stop Me (Stop You) below.
