The Splendour in the Grass line-up drops tomorrow morning at 8am. The speculation is rife, the rumours are abundant, but nobody’s managed to spill the beans. Until now.
A new video was posted on the official Splendour Facebook page this morning, hyping up this year’s event. What caught our attention was not the live footage or the artist interviews, but the video’s bouncy soundtrack: Next To You, by local hitmaker L D R U.
Splendour surely wouldn’t choose a song unless that very song was planning to appear at the festival, right? Right?!
It’s a pretty safe bet. L D R U is no stranger to the Splendour stage – in fact, this will be his fourth in a row, having appeared in 2014 and 2016 as himself, and in 2015 as half of Carmada.
With just hours to go, we’re scrambling to place bets on who’ll be appearing in Byron this July. So far, the closest we have to a confirmation is electronic producer Bonobo, given he’s announced a show in Auckland that week. Japan’s Fuji Rock line-up has dished out a few more clues too, with Lorde, LCD Soundsystem, Major Lazer, The xx and Aphex Twin all well and truly on the cards. On the flip side, Frank Ocean, Bjork and Solange are among those we’ve sadly ruled out, as they’ll be playing other festivals overseas.
All will be revealed at 8am tomorrow. For now, all we can do is wait very, very impatiently.
