Above & Beyond hint at American acoustic tour
Back in June, trance heroes Above & Beyond sold out a string of shows at London’s opulent Porchester Hall. What makes that any different from the usual weekend schedule of Paavo, Jono and Tony, you might ask? Well, for those three nights, Above & Beyond went acoustic with a full live ensemble helping to bring the trio’s songs to life.
The idea had been in the works for a while. “It’s just a fun thing we’d like to do,” Jono Grant told DJ Mag back in 2011. “The one thing I miss with all the DJing is playing the piano. Paavo plays the cello and piano, and Tony plays guitar, and I miss that aspect of live music. It’s something we may well do in the future.”
Now it seems they’re planning to bring the concept Stateside. A photo on the official Above & Beyond Instagram showed the three DJs in sharp suits, flanked by an acoustic guitar, piano and harp. The caption: “Hmmm, maybe we should do this in America sometime?” The answer from fans: lock it in.
Meanwhile, Above & Beyond are celebrating a milestone in their distinguished career as label bosses. The Anjunadeep 05 compilation, mixed by James Grant and Jody Wisternoff, has emerged as the dark horse of the iTunes Dance Album Chart, muscling above commercial powerhouses David Guetta and Calvin Harris. As DJs, the trio is preparing to bring the Group Therapy 050 experience to their hometown of London in October for one-night-only, with Arty, Guy J, Boom Jinx and Andrew Bayer alongside. Now that’s a killer line-up. Stay tuned for news of an acoustic tour in America.
