Now in its 22nd year, Amsterdam Dance Event has evolved into the biggest conference on the dance music calendar.
In 2016 the festival attracted 375,000 attendees, and 2017 is set to be their biggest edition yet with over 2,200 artists scheduled to play 120 venues over five days and nights from October 18-22.
Covering practically every genre of dance music, the festival boasts big names of both the underground and mainstream including Solomun, Maceo Plex, Joris Voorn, Lee Burridge, Damian Lazarus, Markus Schulz, Marshmello, and David Guetta with round the clock parties at Amsterdam’s top clubs and event spaces.
If you’re suddenly finding yourself trying to justify an impromptu trip to Amsterdam, then we really can’t blame you. Here are five ADE parties that will have you reaching for your credit card to book a flight faster than you can say ‘What Would Diplo Do?’.
Friday October 20 // 7pm – 11pm
Underworld — the cult heroes responsible for ‘Born Slippy’ — will play a free show in the club-transformed Rijksmuseum. Musical idols + a super unique, intimate setting = yes please.
Friday October 20 // 10pm-7am
Diynamic’s showcase is always one of the biggest parties of ADE. This year it’s taking place at the stunning Mediahaven featuring three rooms all equipped with amazing acoustics, and no sound restrictions whatsoever.
The German label kingpin Solomun will play alongside the usual Diynamic suspects including Swiss duo Adriatique, mischief maker Butch, top producer Kollektiv Turmstrasse (live), and label mum Magadelena who’s been part of the Diynamic family since the very beginning.
Saturday October 21 // 12pm-8pm
Lee Burridge’s infamous All Day I Dream is probably one of the most recognisable daytime parties known to underground dance music.
Featuring the signature purple and aqua decor, billowing fabric, and deep, melodic, floaty Playa vibes synonymous with the hugely popular event, Burridge has been taking dancefloors by storm from New York, to Melbourne, to Dubai and now Amsterdam.
Burridge will play alongside YokoO, Powel, Henry Saiz, Eelke Kleijn, Martjin Ten Velden, and Sébastien Léger in what is sure to be a standout day party of the entire festival.
Saturday October 21 // 10pm-7am
When Circoloco and Loveland team up, you know you’re in for a treat. After floating through the afternoon with Lee Burridge and his dreamy crew, we’ll be gearing up to dance the night away to beats by Jackmaster, Seth Troxler, Rampa, &ME, Damian Lazarus, Davide Squillace and DJ Tennis.
With such an array of talent we can’t wait to hear what musical direction the night takes but we have a sneaking suspicion that it will feature plenty of house, tech-house, and techno with everything in between to keep us going until dawn.
Sunday October 22 // 1pm-1am
Known for creating experiential events that blend musical, spiritual, and visual dream effects, Amsterdam’s The Gardens of Babylon is where you will find us on festival closing day.
Aside from the jaw-dropping lineup that includes Damian Lazarus, Audiofly, Behrouz, Satori, Chaim, DJ Three, Blondish, Akasha, Jan Blomqvist to name but a few, the carefully curated event will feature three divine areas known as The Gardens of Babylon, The Dark Forest, and The Tree of Life. Interactive performances will complement the stellar lineup, whilst colourful vendors will gather at The Market of Curiosities.
For those looking for a respite from the thumping 4/4, a sound bath and sacred space will welcome those who wander inside looking for some peace and calm. Taking us from day into night, this is how we’ll be spending our final ADE hours exploring everything that The Gardens of Babylon have to offer.
