25 Reasons To Be Excited For Stereosonic
Believe it or not, tomorrow marks one week until the turbo-charged Stereosonic tour gets underway. Kicking off in Sydney and Perth next Saturday before rolling onto Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide the following weekend, there’s no doubting this is Stereo’s biggest year to date. For the first time ever, the festival has expanded to a two-day event in every city and as those set times make plainly clear, they’ve brought on board one hell of a line-up to provide the tunes. So to get you through the last week until showtime, here’s 25 very good reasons to be excited for Stereosonic.
1. HARD is back, back again
Last year, L.A.’s legendary HARD Events made the trip to Australia for the first time, hosting a thumping stage with the coolest names in dance music on the decks. In 2013, they’re back with a stellar cast: think Dog Blood, Clockwork, Djedjotronic, Acid Jacks and, of course, HARD ringleader Destructo. It’s a guaranteed good time.
2. Maceo Plex…finally
It’s only taken him four-odd years, but finally – and we mean finally – house and techno auteur Maceo Plex is making his maiden voyage to Australia with Stereo. So it’s a good thing he’s been given an extended set time in every city, then.
3. Above & Beyond in mainstage mode
Above & Beyond are here with a mission. “Artists need to have something to say musically, and not just be filling a space on a line-up,” Jono Grant told inthemix earlier this year. “So we try to do our own thing even when we’re playing mainstages, which can be difficult. At festivals, it can be about who shouts the loudest – but I think more is not always better. It’s about the atmosphere you create; it doesn’t have to all be about blowing the roof off.” Sign us up.
4. The kings of Ibiza: Solomun and Jamie Jones bring summer to us
Between Cajmere, Lee Foss and Claude Vonstroke, this year’s Hot Creations stage is looking damn good. Not to mention the fact that it also boasts sets from the esteemed likes of Solomun and Jamie Jones…’nuff said, right?
5. Make new friends on day one, meet them there the next day
For the first time ever, this year Stereosonic has expanded to a two day event in every city. It’d be rude not to mark the occasion by enjoying one of the best bits of a multi-day festival: making new best friends on day one and reuniting at the mainstage on day two to keep the party going.
6. Cheer homecoming heroes like ShockOne and Tommy Trash
From humble beginnings, Sydney dude Tommy Trash has become one of the biggest names in dance music right now. This year, the newly-ascendant superstar is coming home to play a primetime set on the Stereosonic mainstage. Then there’s Perth’s ShockOne, who’s bringing his chart-topping new album Universus back home for a victory lap. How ‘bout that local talent.
7. Everyone will rinse “Jack”, but you can hear Breach play it himself
Jack has proven one of the most dependable dancefloor burners of 2013 and now, you catch the man behind the runaway hit play it himself. We highly recommend you put Breach on your ‘must-see’ list.
8. See trance music’s new hope, Andrew Rayel
Andrew Rayel’s being touted as the next big thing in trance, so why not make a beeline for the Full On stage to see for yourself what all the fuss is about? With Armin van Buuren’s personal seal of approval, the guy must be doing something right.
