The 2016 inthemix Awards results are in

Right now, the Australian dance music industry is busy celebrating the 2016 inthemix Awards. At Sydney’s ivy, the results have been announced, the winners have their trophies and the after-party’s about to kick off. Now, we can reveal who’s been crowned the best and biggest in local dance music this year.

For the first time, Melbourne’s MaRLo has taken the top spot in the inthemix50 poll of Australia’s favourite DJs and producers. It’s been a banner year for the homegrown trance superstar, who has sold out both the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney and Festival Hall in Melbourne on his solo Altitude tour, played sets everywhere from EDC New York to Creamfields UK and released big tracks like Leave My Hand and You and Me.

He’s bumped last year’s winner Timmy Trumpet into second place, with Sydney-bred, globe-trotting superstar Alison Wonderland at #3. Other notable inclusions in this year’s top 50 include Flume at #8, What So Not at #10, Anna Lunoe at #16 and Golden Features at #20. You can see the full list below.

Once more in 2016, inthemix handed the voting of some categories to the local dance music industry. A panel of Australia’s leading industry figures voted hitmakers RÜFÜS the winners 2016’s prestigious Artist of the Year prize, taking over from last year’s victors Peking Duk. Trio Jon George, Tyrone Lindqvist and James Hunt also took out APRA AMCOS Song of the Year with You Were Right, while their label Sweat It Out won the newly-introduced category of Label of the Year.

Also picking up a win in the industry-voted categories was Flume, who won Best Album for his second LP Skin. Gold Coast native Paces, who released his debut album Vacation in March, was named 2016’s Breakthrough Artist of the Year.

It doesn’t end there: Falls Festival has been named Australia’s Favourite Event/Festival and Dillon Francis won this year’s Favourite International prize. And as for the winners of Favourite Club Night? Chinese Laundry took out the title for New South Wales, Cloud Nine won in Victoria, Family Nightclub in Queensland, Academy in Canberra, HQ Saturdays in South Australia and Geisha Saturdays in Western Australia.
